Since we went to Montana in 2007 I have been working on quilts for my sister Sherry, who hosted our stay and she and her husband, Paul, took us all over the area. It was great. I finally got the quilts finished and shipped off. If you see one you have pretty much seen the other. They will each fit a twin sized bed. Can you see the stars?

Fun in Weaverville

One thing our family looks forward to each year is the Lion Dance performed each Chinese New Year at the Joss House here in Weaverville. Local kids take part in the traditional "dance" and the community is very supportive of their efforts. I have pictures, but when I went to download them from my camera I found that my daughter, Sharon, had already downloaded them into my computer at home (I'm at the shop - high speed internet). Picture me gritting my teeth. I will have to put them on a disk and then bring them in to put them up.

How can it be 2009 already?

Yes, it has been almost a full year since my last post. My life is CRAZY! Working pretty much 8-12 hours a day 6 days a week. But . . . I love my life, my jobs, the shop, my family, my friends . . . it just doesn't leave me a lot of time for other stuff. Also, until we get high speed internet I won't be able to post a lot of pictures (I have a lot of pictures to post) because it takes about 20 minutes per picture to download onto my blog. Ugh. Soon I will be able to download those babies 1, 2, 3, done! Wahoo!

Uncle Red

While in Ft. Bragg we visited with my uncle, Red Burke, who enjoys restoring old cars, scooters, and anything else mechanical that he takes a liking to. He is in his 90's now and still working each day at his home shop.

Ft. Bragg Quilt Show

Memorial Day weekend we traveled to Ft. Bragg, California, in Mendocino County, to a quilt show. It was held in three different buildings downtown and we met some very nice people during out stay there.

Linda Ballard Retreat

The first week of April, my daughter, Kristen, flew up from Los Angeles and we attended a Linda Ballard quilting retreat here in Weaverville. I decided I would pick my fabrics from my "stash" which was great, but I didn't have enough. Thank goodness for e-bay! I found more of the fabric I needed there and was able to make my blocks at the retreat. Unfortunately, after I had all of my blocks made I decided to double the size of the quilt I was making so I had to double the number of blocks. Needless to say, the blocks aren't done yet. Yes, one more half done project waiting to be completed.

Roseburg Quilt Show

On April 17, 18, & 19 we (my husband the fish man and I) traveled to my hometown, Roseburg, Oregon for the lovely quilt show they had there at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. We were impressed by the quilts on display and enjoyed visiting with the lovely ladies putting on the show and the other vendors. The weather was quite exciting. . . we had sunshine, rain, hail and snow during our stay. Allen would go check the weather every hour just to see what was happening at that particular moment.

Sleeper on the Couch

My youngest daughter sacked out on the couch Friday, still wearing her pioneer dress. The sixth graders had a "In the Old Days" dress up day at school. What 12 year old girl doesn't like to dress up?

Snow Days

We had a total of about two feet of snow here, which packed down to around 6 inches and then stayed and stayed and stayed. It was cold and dry for a week, so it wasn't melting off very quickly. I woke up this morning to a new dusting of snow and tiny flakes falling from the sky. Of course the weather report said we would have high clouds and no precipitation. I spoke to my older sister in Montana and she told me it was snowing heavily and they have had snow on the ground since Thanksgiving. We discussed skiing, the price of snowshoes, and feeding the wild turkeys that have moved into town looking for sustenance. My business partner and I have started the first of three Electronic Marketing classes through the "local" college. They are internet classes so we don't have to drive all the way to the college campus to take them. So far, so good. We hope to get our website (for Textile Traditions, our quilt/fabric shop) set up for business as soon as possible. Check us out at TextileTraditions.com. My business partner, Sue, and I own a quilt/fabric shop called Textile Traditions in Weaverville, California. We teach classes, host the Thursday Night Strippers Quilt Guild on Thursday nights, attend quilt shows and classes, and just have a great time with our many friends and supporters.
Sue just finished a small quilt top showcasing Laurel Burch's Fanciful Felines fabrics and I put together another small top using the new fabrics that arrived yesterday, featuring cowboy kids.

It has been snowing for a few days up here in the mountains and we have been enjoying it! Its not so good for business (we closed the office and I had one customer at the shop today) but it fun to stay indoors by the fire and work on projects that might otherwise sit undone.

This summer we went to Libby, Montana to visit my sister Sherry and her family. We had lots of fun hiking and picking huckleberries. Here is a picture of our family on Chicago Peak on the Kootenai National Forest.

Quilting Classes

I started teaching beginning quilting classes this year at our shop, Textile Traditions. This is the first quilt we did.

Christmas Day 2007

So, this is my first post to my brand spanking new blog spot. I am a 51 year old woman who's daughters have to help her with most things electronic. This afternoon I made chili rellanos casserole. Here is the picture . . . . and the recipe is:

5 eggs
About 1 cup milk (who measures?)
Some seasoning salt (how much do you like?)
One 7 oz. can of diced green chiles
A dash of red pepper flakes
Cayenne pepper

Whisk the eggs with the milk, add spices and diced chiles. Grate in some pepper jack cheese and mix well. Pour into a casserole dish (not too big unless you are doubling the recipe). Grate on some more pepper jack cheese on top (or cheddar if you prefer). Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. If you use a larger casserole dish and the egg cheese mixture is not very deep, you will need to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't overcook. Enjoy!
